New Year in Key largo

WE are travelling to Key Largo from the UK for an eight day break Boxing Day through to Jan 3rd.

We celebrate our anniversary on vacation and would like advice on somewhere special to go visit for the day and to eat.

Also ,is there anywhere locally that celebrates New Year ....do we need to book ahead?????

Very grateful for any advice as to weather at that time, places to go, what to see etc etc

My choice for the very special place for dinner on the day of your anniversary would be Pierre%26#39;s (www.pierres-restaurant.com). Mile marker 81.6 bayside. Be sure to allow yourself the full treatment - drinks on the porch or beach at sunset then lovely, lovely dinner inside.

While Key West can be a day trip from Key Largo, think about whether you can spend a night in Key West. That way you can have a relaxed trip there, see the sunset celebration, have a great dinner and then a relaxed trip home.

New Year in Key largo

Pierres is a great suggestion to celebrate your anniversary it is in Islamorada.

If you want to watch some fireworks on New Years they will put them off from a barge on the water in front of the Carribbean Bar ( a biker bar) in Key Largo. This bar is famous was in some movie my mother keeps telling me...Get there eazlry as many people from Miami also drive down to watch the fireworks.

What else to see, I would spend a day in Everglades National Park, it is west of Miami/Homestead, there is no other place on the planet like it. December is a great time to go there because the alligators are out of the water sunning themselves to stay warm. John Pennekamp park in Key Largo is neat, you can take a dive/snorkel/fishing trip out to the reefs, kayak, sit on the beach, take a glass bottom boat ride out to the reefs, rent a small boat/waverunners, so many things to do there. Theater of Sea in Islamorada is a marine animal theme park that is cute. You need to eat at Islamorada Fish Company cheap good food, a perfect keys restaurant, go there during a sunset.

As far as weather in December, no rain, it can be warm or it can be cool, it all depends on if and when a cold front comes. Decmeber is a great time to visit Florida. Just check the weather before you pack.
