georgia-florida wild fires

Hi! We%26#39;re planning a trip to Cumberland Island %26amp; Amelia Island this weekend May 18th-23rd, we will be traveling from Atlanta area, and just wondering if we will be affected by the wild fires %26amp; road closures?? Thanks!

I%26#39;m on Amelia Island and we have no smoke, no fires, no road closures. I-95 was closed for two exits for a couple of hours yesterday but it was easy to route around and there have been no problems today. Assuming that you%26#39;re going to the Greyfield Inn, their boat leaves from Amelia Island so you shouldn%26#39;t have any trouble there either. If you%26#39;re going camping, you%26#39;ll be leaving from St. Mary%26#39;s, Georgia, so you should check with them. Both places are just north of us so you should pretty much find similar conditions there too. Have a great trip.

Depends on which way the wind blows--that sounds familiar! With our predominantly easterly/northeasterly winds currently there is now problem. Should it shift to the northwest or west as it did a couple of weeks ago, we could get some haze and smoke, but not enough to ruin your weekend.
