how to get from MIA to Doubletree Ocean Point

My girlfriend and I are flying to MIA in a few weeks. My question was what would be the most logical and cheapest way to get from the airport to the Doubletree Ocean Point in Sunny Isles? I%26#39;ve heard about the shuttle. I%26#39;ve heard about the public transportation and taxis. What would be the best option.

Thanks!

One trouble with Sunny Isles is the cost of transport!

If you are arriving in the daytime, the most economical way to get from MIA to the hotel might just be rental car. There is a rental office for most of the majors up that way (Hertz, National etc) I rented a car near the Ocean Point this week while I got mine fixed for under $20 a day.

Check the price online for renting a car at MIA and returning it at Sunny Isles. KNOW that they close the off-site offices at 5pm or 6pm so ASK!! Otherwise you will pay for parking it overnight at the hotel and that can be costly.

From MIA, a shuttle is just around $26 per person. A taxi is $52 flat rate for whomever you can squeeze into the car (4 people, though you can always request a van or SUV sized cab at baggage claim for no extra charge...)

One benefit to renting a car - if you arrive early in the day - is that you can sightsee the first day on your own and then turn in the car if you are not planning to drive during your visit. There is not a lot to do in Sunny Isles without a car... You can taxi to South Beach (pricey) or take local shuttle busses up and down Collins to the beach or the mall.

INFO on Sunny Isles:

1. 5 miles south of your hotel is one of the most spendy, most sparkley, most amazing shopping centers ever. It%26#39;s ';Vegas Baby'; in caliber. Bal Harbour Shops. Check it out if only to see where Paris Hilton shops while the rest of us are getting out undies at WalMart. www.balharbourshops.com

2. 4 miles south is Haulover Park - one of south Florida%26#39;s most beautiful beaches - a mile and a half stretch nestled between the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

Across the street from the beach, Haulover Park has a full-service marina if you want to try deep-sea fishing, plus tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course, and ample free parking.

Here is the website:

Note that the northernmost portion of the Haulover Beach is CLOTHING OPTIONAL - should you decide to get no tan lines.

3. Generally in Sunny Isles you%26#39;ll find lots of Donald Trump construction going on...

There are strip shopping plazas due north of 163rd street with Einstein%26#39;s Bagels, Starbucks, and a NY Jewish-Style Deli called Rascal House which folks love for breakfast (free onion rolls and danish in the AM) or mile high deli sandwiches to eat in our take out all day long. 17190 Collns Ave.

4. Also on Collins is Timo Restaurant (17624 Collins), a great place for dinner - www.timorestaurant.com - further north, look for signs indicating 856 EAST (William Lehman Causeway). Stay in the left lanes northbound on Collins and this Causeway leads to Aventura Mall. The Cheesecake Factory and lots of great shopping, a multiplex movie and Bella Luna Italian Restaurant are all worth checking out. There is an exit clearly marked on the Causeway to take you righ to the parking area for this GIANT mall.

5. 6 miles south of your hotel is Harding Avenue and the Town of Surfside. More restaurants here:

Flannigan%26#39;s Seafood Bar %26amp; Grill at 9516 Harding is a casual pub with fresh fish sandwiches, great burgers and wings, steamed clams and sports on TV. Just next door at 9500 is a great Italian Restaurant, Ragazzi%26#39;s - which is always crowded and WORTH the wait. Turn right on 95/Harding to park behind these restaurants. If you turn left on 95th Street (east) during the day, check out The Greek Place (lunch only) 233 95th Street. This hole in the wall is a local%26#39;s favorite. At 9583 Harding, Sushi Republic is a tiny storefront sushi bar. At 9400, there is a full supermarket called Publix, where you can buy snacks for the room as well as beer and wine. If you want to buy liquor, the Big Daddy%26#39;s liquor store is at 9494 Harding across from Ragazzi%26#39;s.

This should get you organized!

thanks!!

The only problem for me, is my girlfriend and I are under 25 so it would be a fortune to rent a car + the hotel charges 20 bucks a day for parking. I guess we%26#39;ll just have to bite the bullet and pay the shuttle or cab. Its just 2 of us.
