Worth it to go ';standby'; for character dinners?

We%26#39;re heading down for Memorial Week. Yes, I know it will be crowded. Called a while back and didn%26#39;t book any meals as we didn%26#39;t have all plans finalized. Called today and of course everything was full.

So my question: Can we simply walk up to a character dinner and get on a wait-list or go ';standby';? The WDW-DINE line said yes, but no guarantees. Anyone have experience doing this?

We are 8 people (2 families of 4) and can easily split up.

DINE line also said that popular meals like Chef Mickey%26#39;s and Cinderella%26#39;s Gala Feast (Grand Floridian) don%26#39;t require a credit card to make a reservation. So I wonder how many folks make a res %26amp; don%26#39;t show up %26amp; don%26#39;t call ahead to cancel.

Thanks for the help,

Worth it to go ';standby'; for character dinners?

Hi ~

We had reservations for 9:30 a.m. at the Character Breakfast at the Cape May Cafe. Unfortunately, the ferry (from Fort Wilderness) was running late and we (along w/ another couple) showed up about 25 minutes late! To our surprise, there was nobody waiting and they got us right in. The hostess told us that later in the morning, you can usually walk up because the families with young children eat earlier. I think it would be worth it to check one more time (right before your trip) to see if there were any cancellations. If not, try to go standby later in the morning.

Anything is possible when reservations don%26#39;t require a deposit, but the popularity of the character meals is so high, most folks do show up.

I%26#39;ve seen times when ';walk ups'; had no problem getting in, then I%26#39;ve seen times when walkups didn%26#39;t have a prayer. It%26#39;s all going to depend on the day, so if you have time to kill and don%26#39;t mind waiting a while, go ahead and try the ';walk up'; method.

It%26#39;s worth it-I%26#39;ve gotten in to Cinderella%26#39;s breakfast with my kids as a standby fairly often. People run late, they cancel, whatever. so there%26#39;s often tables available at the meals-and it%26#39;s worth it!

Thanks for the encouragement. I think we%26#39;ll give it a try, either early or late for a meal.

Bye,
