vacationing in June

My family %26amp; I are planning on vacationing in Pensacola in June. I am wondering about the beaches there. Can you still get to Fort Pickens %26amp; Santa Rosa Island? We live in Louisiana %26amp; love it there. We haven%26#39;t been since the hurricanes. Can anyone please give me any details? Thanks so much!!

You can definitely get to Santa Rosa Island (that%26#39;s where Pensacola Beach is located). Fort Pickens is still closed to cars (there%26#39;s no road yet), but there has been some talk about ferries lately.

There is a lot of construction going on at Pensacola Beach due to the damage from Hurricane Ivan, but all of the shops and restaurants and hotels are up and running. Go and have a great time!!

Pensacola Beach is open, the weather has been wonderful lately. Ft. Pickens is open to only foot and bicycle traffic, no cars..but it is very peaceful out there.

There is still some construction/clean up from the hurricanes and you cannot drive on the island between P%26#39;cola beach and Navarre, road is still washed away.

You should have a good time, be sure to take advantage of the free concerts on the beach (Tuesday evenings).

Please, please, stop at the visitor%26#39;s center when you arrive on Pensacola Beach. It is just over the bridge and on the right. You really have to look for it. I stopped there last month while camping at Destin, since Fort Pickens campground has been closed for 4 years now. Ask about the 5 species of venemous snakes they have found there since there are no people around, the wildlife has taken over. I walked about 3 miles on the beach, but stopped before I got to the underbrush. But the water was just beautiful and the beach was, also. Nude sunbathing is also a problem. I guess people don%26#39;t expect much foot traffic that far out on the beach.
